The Turkish Earthquake 1999

Two devastating earthquakes hit Turkey within the space of less than three months during 1999. The first - with its epicentre at Izmit in Turkey’s heavily populated northwest - struck at 0302 hours local time on 17 August. It left some 17,000 people dead and thousands more homeless. The second struck just 100km away on 12 November, killing hundreds more.
A massive earthquake hit the city of Izmit in 1999. ·
Your task is to find out what happened
· You must put in as many facts and numbers as you can find
· You will need to have a map to show where Turkey and Izmit are
· You need to find some pictures of the damage caused by the earthquake
· You could try to get some eye-witness accounts eg. What the survivors said
