Here is your homework question:-

 

Explain, using examples, the social and economic effects of deindustrialisation in an area of traditional heavy industry.  (6)

You need to plan your essay answer like so…..

  • write about the Ruhr industries (Coal, Iron&Steel), how they have declined since 1950…..write about the socio-economic problems that this caused.  (These are in your yellow books)
  • Add numbers, place names etc
  • Write about South Wales, problems caused by coal mines+iron and steel industry being closed. eg. unemployment,dereliction, vandalism, family breakdowns, drug use by young, alcoholism. Change to Light manufacturing and part-time female employment.
  • Try to include factory names such as Hitachi, Millennium Stadium Cardiff etc. Cardiff Bay Development Corporation.
